HEATHCOTE Health and Heathcote Community House this week launched the Winter 2024 Coat and Blanket Drive.

Community members are being encouraged to donate excess bedding and jackets to local community organisations.

“It was brought to the attention of Heathcote Health via an internal meeting that some people in our community were seeking ways to combat the cold this winter,” said HH executive assistant Michelle Chapman.

“We heard directly from a community member that they needed warm bedding and a call for donations of clean winter bedding was spread throughout the organisation.

“Due to the high costs of living many people have to rationalise and budget their spending, this may mean the difference between turning on the heating or not or staying in bed all day to keep warm.

“We are asking the Heathcote and district community to consider donating clean winter coats and blankets to our local charity organisations.

“This seemed the most fair and equitable way to be able to distribute donated goods, and also support our local charity organisations.”

The Coat and Blanket Drive was discussed at the July Heathcote Community Capacity Builders meeting earlier this month.

“Mandalay Resources Costerfield Operations Community Advisor, Jodie O’Donohue, was quick to answer the call,” said Ms Chapman.

“The organisation donated 50 blankets directly to Heathcote Community House.”

On Wednesday, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Mandalay Resources Costerfield Operations by Ms Chapman.

HCH executive officer Vicki Forde said the generosity of Mandalay Resources and Heathcote locals is always appreciated.”We are very lucky to live in this community,” she said. “Together, we can spread warmth and ensure that everyone has access to winter warmth.

“Let’s unite and brighten up this winter for those who require it most.”

Laundered blankets, doonas and jackets, new or in great second-hand condition can be left at local op shops or at the Heathcote Health and Wellbeing Hub, 204 High Street.

Ms Chapman said anyone having difficulties managing at home or needing assistance with personal care, home care tasks, district nursing or wanting to enquire about home care packages can contact Heathcote Health Aged Care or the Urgent Care Centre, Victorian Virtual Emergency Department, the NDIS, MyAged Care, or the Mental Health Triage Services (Bendigo Health).
