MUNARI Wines, in association with the Heathcote Film Festival committee, stepped back in time last weekend to host an evening of jazz and silent film.

The Sounds of Silent, a five-piece musical ensemble, played a lively mix of jazz to accompany a comedy short featuring Laurel and Hardy, and Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush.

“The musical performance was a mixture of traditional 1920s jazz, as well as more contemporary music following the action occurring on screen,” said Heathcote Film Festival committee member Duncan McGann.

“This made for an engaging and often hilarious performance.”

The audience enjoyed fine food and wine in the recently renovated and rustic tasting room at Munari Wines.

“Everyone agreed it was the perfect setting for this event,” said Mr McGann.

“To add to the authenticity, many attendees dressed up in 1920s fashion.”

The Heathcote Film Festival is keen to add to the offerings of film events in Heathcote and the committee is hopeful that this event was the first of many more.

“We are always in discussion as to how we can expand what we do and would be very happy to hear from anyone with event ideas,” said Mr McGann. “There are some wonderful venues in and around Heathcote and we are keen to partner with these to expand the range of entertainment in town.

“Given the enthusiasm of the audience on Saturday, this should certainly be possible.

“As ever, the committee were grateful for the sponsorship assistance from the Heathcote and District Community Bank.

“These funds ensure we can provide quality events for the Heathcote community.”
