THE Heathcote StoryWalk has been updated with a new book.

Pages from An Important Message from Mr Beaky by Cassie Leatham and Sue Lawson are now featured along the walk which starts at the Heathcote plays pace.

“This is a story about a special budgerigar called Mr Beaky who lives on Taungurung Country,” said Elise Wright, Coordinator of Community Based Services at Goldfields Library Corporation.

“He shares an important message about culture and identity. The story features beautiful images of the clever cheeky blue budgie Mr Beaky, who has been taught to speak Taungurung language.

“The Heathcote StoryWalk starts at the play space and leads walkers around Barrack Reserve along the McIvor Creek trail.

“The walk is not too long for younger children and is a great way to keep active while also nurturing children’s listening and learning skills.”

Healthy Loddon Campaspe has partnered with Goldfields Libraries and the City of Greater Bendigo to deliver the internationally recognised StoryWalk program at Heathcote .

There are also StoryWalks in Kyneton and Castlemaine.

“Each term we update the Storywalk boards with a new picture book,” said Ms Wright.

“Whenever we update the boards, we receive lots of wonderful feedback from passers-by, not just children and families.

“Quite often adults and seniors will comment and say they enjoy reading the stories while they’re on their daily walk, going to pick the kids up from school or taking the dog for a walk.

“We would love to receive feedback from community members who have enjoyed the Heathcote StoryWalk. They can use the QR code at the trailhead, call us or drop into the Heathcote library.

“We’d especially like to hear if anyone notices that one of the storyboards has been damaged.”
