Tenor-ific concert set for Capital
OPERA aficionados will be in for a treat when the accomplished Australian Tenors roll into town later this month, supported by leading soprano Giuseppina Grech.
The five-member ensemble is made up of Murray Mayday and John Donohoe from Opera Australia, founder and artistic director of Western Sydney Opera – Lorenzo Rositano, the artistic director Opera Van Diemensland Martin Buckingham), and Michael Butchard from Royal College of Music in London.
Australian-Italian soprano Grech is a Melbourne Conservatorium of Music alumni who went on to win first prize in the Italian Acclaim Opera Fellowship Awards in 2014, then continued her studies at the Teatro Accademia alla Scala in Milan.
As well as classical arias such as Puccini’s Nessun Dorma and Verdi’s Anvil Chorus, attendees can also look forward to powerful performances of You’ll Never Walk Alone and The Hallelujah Chorus.
There will also be a distinctly Australian flavour to the afternoon, with Waltzing Matilda, I Am Australian and Road to Gundagai expected to be on the run sheet as well.
The Australian Tenors with the Southern Cross Orchestra and Giuseppina Grech perform at the Capital Theatre on Sunday, 19 March from 2pm.
