LAST week, grade 6 students from Heathcote Primary and Holy Rosary Primary schools, as well as their teachers and families attended 2023 graduation ceremonies.

Holy Rosary held their graduation and awards evening in the Catholic church.

“Past student Deni Edwards from the class of 2013 spoke to the grade six students about her time at Holy Rosary and her adventures since with study and work,” said principal Paul Dullard.

“The graduating students were presented with certificates and awards were presented to grade 6 and junior students.

“The group then moved on to Heathcote Golf Club for pizza, cake and a bit of fun.”

Over on Herriot Street, students and their families at Heathcote Primary took part in an afternoon tea in the school kitchen before their graduation ceremony.

The pupils all read speeches they had prepared during class over the preceding week.

“It was lovely to have our students speak about their primary school years and what they were looking forward to next year,” said principal Kate Ballantyne.

“Well done year 6. Looking at their slideshow took us all back to the little people they were on arrival to our foundation class. A lovely reminder.

“The ceremony was also attended by the 2024 grade 6 leadership team in their first official role.

“Thank you to staff for their preparations for the event. As always, their time and effort are appreciated.”

At the conclusion, each student was given a keepsake bear to be signed by their fellow classmates as a reminder of their primary school years.
