The world’s largest treasure hunt
HEATHCOTE residents will have the opportunity to learn about geocaching, the world’s largest treasure hunt, at a workshop to be held at Heathcote Community House on Wednesday 15 January.
A second workshop will be held at Rochester Community House on Thursday 16 January.
Geocaching is a fun outdoor adventure where participants use GPS coordinates to find hidden containers, aka geocaches.
The workshops will be hosted by Healthy Loddon Campaspe.
“Geocaching is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to go out into the great outdoors and enjoy a fun activity,” said community house executive officer Vicki Forde.
“Anyone can join in; all participants need is a smartphone with GPS capabilities.
“Then they need to download the Geocaching.com app which will show if there are any geocaches in the area.
“Inside each geocache is a logbook to sign and the possibility of some cool trinkets, or caches, to trade.
“It is perfect for explorers of all ages.”
Geocaches can be found all over the world.
Containers are hidden in various locations, each containing toys or trinkets.
Geocachers can take the items from the containers but must replace them with something of equal or greater value.
Workshop participants will learn all the ins and out of geocaching from an expert representative from Geocaching Victoria.
