TWENTY new students attended Heathcote Primary School on Statewide Transition Day this week.

At the same time, grade six students visited their respective 2024 high schools in Bendigo and Seymour.

“The children have visited our school several times over the past few weeks which was very helpful,” said HPS principal Kate Ballantyne.

“We are excited for the new year with a total of 138 students enrolled.

“Current students from prep to grade 5, also spent two hours today in their classrooms for next year.

“We will be fully staffed in 2024, which is excellent considering there are staff shortages across the state.”

The future prep students took part in story time with teacher Kym Childs reading Where is the green sheep? by Mem Fox.

Then, they went on a hunt around the school grounds to try and find a green sheep, only to discover he was in the classroom all the time.

“I hope all the children had a wonderful time today and I am sure transition day will prepare them all for the year ahead,” said Ms Ballantyne.
