Vixens bring Super Netball action to the region
TOP-level sport is heading back to Bendigo this summer with the Melbourne Vixens set to host three other Super Netball sides during a pre-season camp at Red Energy Arena.
The Vixens will be joined by the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Sunshine Coast Lightning and Western Sydney-based Giants Netball in two days of matches on Saturday, 11 and Sunday 12 February.
“We’re excited to be heading to Bendigo as part of our pre-season preparations, and we’re looking forward to competing against quality opposition ahead of the 2023 season,” said Megan Simpson, Vixens’ general manager of performance and pathways.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring elite netball events to regional areas, showcasing the Melbourne Vixens and enabling athletes to engage with our Victorian netball community.”
Along with some of the country’s best netballers, the Victorian Men’s League will act as a curtain raiser for the elite women.
As part of the weekend Netball Victoria will also be running a range of workshops and community events including umpiring and coaching sessions.
Manager of tourism and major events for the City of Greater Bendigo, Terry Karamaloudis, said the weekend would showcase netball and the region.
“The City of Greater Bendigo is delighted to welcome back the incredibly talented Melbourne Vixens to Bendigo next February for what promises to be an action-packed netball festival at our world-class facilities,” he said.
“Our passionate netball community will love watching the Vixens in these pre-season games and jump at the chance to meet their idols at community activities taking place during the blockbuster weekend.”
On Saturday, 11 February the Giants will take on the Thunderbirds from 3pm, with the Vixens hosting the Lightning at 5pm.
The Sunday fixture sees the Thunderbirds and Lightning go from 11am, with the Vixens and the Giants on court at 1pm.
