Walking in his grandfather’s footsteps

Mr Day will walk the trail with his cousin Richard, raising funds for Legacy.
“I have wanted to do this forever,” he said. “My late grandfather Edward Kenna was my idol and hero.
“It has been a lifelong goal to walk in his footsteps by visiting New Guinea and completing the Kokoda Trail.
“Pop received the highest order of bravery for his efforts in New Guinea, putting himself in the line of fire to combat armed forces and advance the Australian 2/4 battalion.
“He always said the medal was not for him but for everyone who served.
“He faced so many challenges throughout his time in New Guinea and on his return from World War Two, showing incredible bravery and yet was the most humble man you could ever meet.
“I hope to do him proud by completing this trek and raise some money to support other servicemen, women and their families through Legacy.”
Mr Day has been training for seven months and is grateful for the support he has received from the community.

“Nicky from At the Bar Fitness has been incredible,” he said. “She’s helped me to get fit and the fundraiser she organised last week was fantastic.
“It was a round robin style event, and we had so much fun while doing a great workout. It raised $1000.
“The Heathcote community is fantastic. I feel very loved and grateful my family moved here ten years ago.”
Mr Day sets out on the trek on 7 July. Donations can be made at Gaffney’s Bakery, At the Bar Fitness or through his Facebook page, Tim’s Kokoda Trek.
