What’s happening with the new EV charging station?
SHROUDED in mystery and plastic wrap, the promise of an electric vehicle charging station in Heathcote, cuts a ghostly figure beside Barrack Oval.
Some residents have been left are puzzled, others a little annoyed after watching the unveiling of charging stations in surrounding towns.
Electric vehicle driver Evan Pritchard said he was excited when installation through the State Government’s Charging the Regions’ fund was announced.
“Recent additions have been Nagambie and Lancefield and now it seems, going by the temporary fencing and signage in town, Heathcote will finally get their turn,” he said.
“As an EV driver, this news is fantastic, especially if people are considering going emissions free and buying an EV but are worried about charging infrastructure.”
But Mr Pritchard, like many others has not been able to get any information about when the station is likely to be open to the public.
Michelle Wyatt, City of Greater Bendigo’s Manager for climate change and environment said the municipality had limited involvement with the charging station.
“Council was involved with site selection and internal approval,” she said.
“Evie Networks are rolling out the charging stations and we hope the Heathcote station will be up and running soon.”
Evie spokesperson Matthew Munro also said the facility should be switched on.
“We will be meeting with council on Thursday to discuss the final details,” he said.
“Hopefully it will be ready in two weeks but it should be operational by the end of the month.”
