RESIDENTS watched with interest this week as work to fix electrical issues at the Heathcote Swimming Pool continued.

The pool closed at the end of last season after some patrons reported electrical shocks.

The City of Greater Bendigo updated residents on progress at the pool in a statement this week.

Electrical specialists have completed excavation and some additional earthing works around the pool.

Dry conditions testing has been completed, and the consulting electrical inspector said the results were encouraging.

The pool is being refilled so the inspector can return and conduct wet condition testing as soon as possible.

No date has been set for the swimming pool’s reopening. The city confirmed it will continue to update residents on the progress of the repairs.

Community reference group member Karla Douglas said she and other residents will continue to follow the progress of repairs at the pool.

“There has been so much done at the pool over the years by local community volunteers and the Lions Club,” she said.

“We want to ensure their hard work has not been in vain and the community can enjoy pool facilities again, as soon as possible.

“Unfortunately, with no opening date announced for the foreseeable future, businesses are still suffering, including the normally full caravan park which has very few bookings for the Australia Day weekend.

“Visitors want to know when the pool will be open.”

The city is continuing to offer free season passes to pools in Bendigo, as well as bus passes.

Both passes can be obtained at the visitor centre every day from 9am to 4.30pm or at the Heathcote Swimming Pool, Monday to Sunday from 12pm to 7pm.
