A tertiary future for Bendigo health care
Bendigo Health's new strategic plan outlines a decade of improvements aimed at making care easier to access for seniors, with more services delivered closer to home.
BENDIGO Health’s new strategic plan sets out a clear and realistic goal to become a regional tertiary health service by 2035.
This means Bendigo Health will be able to provide almost all of the care our community needs locally, without people having to travel to Melbourne.
As part of the plan, seniors can expect improvements that make a real difference, such as:
* More specialist doctors and services available in Bendigo
* Greater use of telehealth and technology for appointments where it suits patients
* Better coordination with local health services so care is easier to access and closer to home
* Improved infrastructure.
The plan, launched late last year, explains how Bendigo Health will continue to grow and improve services as our community changes and ages.
It has been shaped by listening carefully to patients, carers, staff, community groups and local organisations.
The plan looks ahead over 10 years and is divided into two stages.
Years 1–5: building the foundation
The first five years focus on strengthening the basics and preparing for future growth.
Key areas include:
• Expanding clinical services across the region
• Redeveloping the hospital and aged care facilities
• Improving mental health services
• Establishing a regional clinical research hub
• Improving the quality and safety of the healthcare provided
• Supporting and growing Bendigo Health’s skilled workforce
• Using technology to make care safer
• Managing finances responsibly and reducing environmental impact
• Ensuring services are culturally safe, welcoming and inclusive for everyone
Years 6–10: becoming a tertiary health service
The second stage focuses on delivering advanced care locally.
This includes:
• Expanding Bendigo Health’s specialist services
• Strengthening partnerships with universities and training organisations
• Growing clinical research to improve patient care
Bendigo Health becoming a tertiary hospital for the Loddon Mallee region.
This plan is about providing peace of mind, knowing that as your healthcare needs change high-quality care will be available as close to home as possible.
