Support for Seniors more than on the cards

June 27, 2024 BY

The Victorian Seniors Festival focuses on providing fun and opportunities to participate in events and activities for free, or a small fee, in October.

OUR government is helping older Victorians to stay connected to their communities – and stay healthy and well.

The Victorian Seniors Card was introduced in 1991, with more than one million Victorian Seniors now holding a card. The Seniors Card encourages people to keep active and engaged in the community, by providing incentives and making it more affordable to get out and about.

To be eligible for the card, you need to meet these three criteria:

  • • Be 60 years of age or older;
  • • Work less than 35 hours per week in paid employment; and
  • • Be a permanent resident of Australia, residing in Victoria.

Seniors Card holders receive numerous benefits, including discounts from businesses across Victoria, free seniors Myki, an exemption from a fishing licence in Victorian waters, and access to free or discounted events at the Victorian Seniors Festival.

To apply for a Seniors Card and for more information about the benefits of holding a Victorian Seniors card visit seniorsonline.vic.gov.au or contact my office for assistance.

The annual Victorian Seniors Festival returned last year in 2023. The major statewide festival for Victorians over 60, the Victorian Seniors Festival focuses on providing fun and good times with opportunities to participate in events and activities for free or low cost throughout October each year.

The festival also includes the annual Victorian Senior of the Year Awards. These awards recognise and celebrate the talents, achievements, and contributions of older Victorians to their community.

Running for more than 20 years, these Awards acknowledge older Victorians who volunteer to assist, support, and encourage others.
