Challenging results for Heathcote’s bowlers
BOTH Weekend Pennant teams were soundly defeated at the weekend.
In Division 3, Heathcote travelled to South Bendigo and played the top side and were beaten by 50 shots going down 57 to 107.
Maurice Lee’s rink scored 14 and lost C. Adams on 25, Brett Kelly rink shit 18 and were defeated by J Knight’s 26, Chris Morcom also scored 14 shots and lost to D Conley with 28, while John McGillivray scored 11 and went down to T Marsill on 28.
Maurice Lee made a slow start and after six ends trailed by six shots. Shots and ends were then shared but Lee’s team lost six shots on the last end to go down by 11 shots.
Brett Kelly won the first three ends and led by a shot after 12. Kelly’s team then struggled and despite winning the last two ends lost by eight shots.
Chris Morcom started slowly and was down by 11 shots by the 10th end. His team won the next four ends but then lost the last 3 to lose by 14 shots.
John McGillivray made a poor start losing the first eight ends trailing by 15 shots. John’s team continued to struggle losing the last 3 ends to go down by 18 shots.
This weekend Heathcote’s Division 3 squad will take on Strathfieldsaye at Strathfieldsaye.
In Division 7 Heathcote played Kangaroo Flat at home and were beaten by 30 shots with a final score line of 46 to 76.
Barry Cail’s rink scored shots 14 but lost to C Maddern on 22, Lorraine Speirs 16 lost A Boadle on 33, and Tony Leahy foursome also scored 16 but was defeated by E Caine with 21.
Barry Cail started slowly and was down by seven shots by the seventh end, but his team won the next three ends and the last two to lose by eight shots.
Lorraine Speirs made a good start and led by five after six. Her team then struggled, dropping the next eight ends and went down by 17 shots.
Tony Leahy had an even start and there was only a shot the difference after 13 ends. Leahy’s team then lost the next six ends and despite winning the last two was defeated by five shots.
This weekend Heathcote welcomes North Bendigo at home.
Midweek Pennant action played on Monday, Heathcote’s Division 2 side travelled to Harcourt on and after an even start Heathcote went down by 12 shots, 48 to 60.
Dot Cutajar rink had 12 shots but lost D March on 20, Lorraine Speirs team scored 22 and got the win over C Frost on 19, while Eileen O’Brien’s squad had 14 shots and lost B March with 21.
Dot Cutajar started slowly and trailed by nine shots after 14 ends. Despite winning four of the last seven ends Cutajar’s team went down by eight shots.
Lorraine Speirs struggled early and was down by nine shots after 10 ends. However, her team then took control losing only three more ends and went onto win by three shots.
Eileen O’Brien struggled at the start and was down by seven on the 10th end. O’Brien’s team then won the next four ends but lost the last to go down by seven shots.
In social bowls Wednesday, 23 November saw 12 bowlers play three games in fine and warm conditions.
The winners were Grant Baker and Ilona Hutterer (three wins, 46 points, +11 shots).
Runners up were Greg Speirs and Richard Edwards (two wins, 32 points, +12 shots).
Finally, the club’s Christmas raffle and break up are set for Thursday, 15 December. With a reminder to members to please return your tickets ASAP and please bring items for the two hampers.
