Grindlay nears 50-goal mark

GUN forward Corey Grindlay is just six goals away from reaching the fifty-mark as he lines up for Heathcote in this Saturday’s tenth round of the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL senior footy season.

The Saints will be back on home turf at Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve to take on Colbinabbin.

A win-loss record of six and two has Heathcote in second place in the premiership race and a serious contender for the flag.

Urgency for a place in the team’s best 22 is heating up as several players return from injury.

The Andrew Saladino-coached Saints showed no mercy for Huntly in last Saturday’s clash at Heathcote.

After an inaccurate tally of 2.6 in the first quarter, Heathcote added 6.2 to a goal in the second to lead by 42 points at half-time.

In this match it was not Grindlay who dominated in the Saints’ forward line.

The first-year Saint who crossed from Wallan finished with three goals as Heathcote charged away for a 133-53 victory.

Braden Padmore kicked a match-high five goals to be among the best along with rover Liam Jacques and key defender Lachlan Inness.

The Saints were without captain and skilful half-back flanker Codie Price for the clash with the Hawks.

Heathcote’s focus is now on Colbinabbin.

Beating the Grasshoppers twice in a season is a feat Heathcote has not achieved for a while.

A 74-44 victory at Colbinabbin’s M.J. Morgan Oval in round one was the first time Heathcote had beaten the Grassshoppers on their turf in 10 years.
