Hardy works hard in bout prep
BEING able to shed six kilograms in just five weeks is just one of the transformations Jason Hardy has made in preparation for next month’s Bendigo Fight Centre inter-club tournament for novices.
Hardy is one of several kickboxers who will climb into the ring on 3 December at the Allingham Street gym.
For many of the novices in boxing, kickboxing or muay Thai it’s been a 16-week challenge of training leading into BFC’s first tournament.
“A main motivation for me was fitness,” Hardy said before another workout at BFC in Golden Square.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of a match and enjoying the lead-up.”
BFC trainer Lucas Allen said Hardy’s work ethic was outstanding.
“He is so consistent in his approach to training, which he is doing twice a day,” Allen said. “As a trainer you can give plenty of tips and drills, but a lot is about self-motivation.
“All of our novices have been showing that.”
The BFC inter-club format will be bouts of three rounds of 90 seconds duration.
Contact sparring will be at 70 per cent.
“All competitors will be fully padded. Safety is our number one priority,” said Allen who has more than 10 years experience of training in combat sports and has also competed.
“This is the first tournament Bendigo Fight Centre will run. It’s an opportunity to step up and compete in a safe and controlled environment.
“Combat sports are among the fastest growing in the world, whether it be boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, or grappling.
“It’s a chance for these combat artists to compete before a crowd and show what they are capable of.”
At this stage there are at least 10 bouts pencilled in and Bendigo Fight Centre will be well represented, as will Melton.
Allen took charge of BFC, previously Hit Factory run by Danniel Burton, last July and said membership continues to grow.
“We have members from a wide range of ages, experience, and ability,” Allen said. “The main thing is they work incredibly hard.”
The training team at BFC is Lucas Allen, Kaleb Heffernan, Dariean Menchini, Martin John, Angus Tsam, Luke McKenzie and Hamish Catto, and all are former or active fighters.
The strength and conditioning/crossfit trainer is Matt Richardson.
Ticket prices for fans on 3 December 3 will be kept at a nominal cost.
“The goal is to cover our costs and put on a great night,” said Allen.
