LOCKED on five wins a piece, Golden Square and Eaglehawk meet in Saturday’s eighth round of senior footy action in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL season.

It’s third against second as the Bulldogs and Borough take to Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street on the King’s Birthday holiday weekend.

After a strong start to the season, the Travis Matheson-coached Eaglehawk Are now fighting to avoid a hat-trick of defats.

It was a thrilling finish to the Indigenous Round feature match at Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park last Saturday where Kyneton clinched a 77-76 win against the Two Blues.

The Christian Carter-coached Golden Square has the midfield and goalscoring power to test the Hawks.

Joel Brett kicked seven goals in the Bulldogs win at Castlemaine, but the blue and gold had 10 others feature on the goalkicking list.

Another big match will be at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington where South Bendigo takes on Gisborne.

The Nathan Horbury-coached Bloods tidied up their play into and within the forward 50-metre arc to score 27 goals at Maryborough’s Princes Park.

A two and five record has Gisborne in eighth place and facing a tough battle to qualify for the finals.

The Brad Fox-coached Bulldogs worked incredibly hard to finish within 17 points of the ladder-leading Sandhurst at Gisborne last round.

Three wins in a row has Kyneton just two points behind the fourth and fifth-placed South Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye.

The Paul Chapman-coached Tigers are back at Kyneton Showgrounds to take on Kangaroo Flat.

Cameron Manuel kicked five goals to be best afield in the win at Eagleahwk and will be a huge threat to the Roos’ chances.

Sandhurst and Castlemaine will play at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The Dragons have plenty of run and skill on every line.

Emotions were running high in the lead-up and throughout Castlemaine’s match last Saturday in the wake of the sudden passing of under 18 player Dallas Keogh-Frankling.

A young Castlemaine team coached by Brendan Shepherd has a goal to compete strongly in every quarter.

Maryborough is on home turf at Princes Park to take on a Strathfieldsaye line-up which hit the 150-point mark against Kangaroo Flat last round.
