THE unbeaten run by Heathcote in division three of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields weekend pennant bowls was ended in last Saturday’s play by South Bendigo.

In a shock result, the Diggers outplayed the Saints on their greens to record an 81-65 victory.

Chris Morcom made a slow start and was down by 13 shots after 10 ends.

The Morcom line-up lifted to be beaten on just three more ends, but it was T. Gretgrix who secured a 19-13 victory.

Maurice Lee started slowly and trailed by five shots by the 11th end.

Although the Lee rink won the last two ends, it was J. Dixon’s rink that claimed a 19-17 win for the Diggers.

Brett Kelly won the first three ends, but then struggled to be down by 10 shots after 11 ends.

The Kelly rink fought back strongly in a 19-24 loss to J. Geldart.

After being beaten on the opening two ends, Bill Gardiner hit back to hold a seven-shot lead by the 12th end.

From there it was M. Duthie’s rink that rolled on to record a 19-16 victory.

In division six, Heathcote marked a 63-50 win on Eaglehawk’s greens.

Lorraine Speirs won nine of the first 12 ends on the way to a 22-12 win against L. Morshcad.

Denis Kilner’s rink was down by six shots after 11 ends.

The Kilner rink lifted, but it was C. Baker who won 24-21.

Brian Berger led by a shot after 12 ends and scored two shots on the final end for a 20-14 result.

All midweek pennant on Monday was called off and points were shared because of Monday’s heat.

More than 50 members and friends were at the Christmas break-up.

The winner of the trip to Yarrawonga was Deb Bond.

Hampers were won by Lorraine Speirs, Leah Kelly and Larine Leask.
