Ladder-leading Saints play on Roos’ ground

THE ladder-leading Heathcote will play at Kangaroo Flat in this Saturday’s fifth round of division three pennant in Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields bowls.

Play between the Saints and Kangaroos starts at 1.30pm. Heathcote rolled to a 21-shot victory in last Saturday’s home game against Marong.

The Bill Gardiner-skipped rink led by 10 shots after 15 ends and went on to record a 28-22 win against A. Spence.

Maurice Lee’s rink won 27-17 against N. Ryan.

Adam Luxford could not stop S. Knight’s charge to a 31-14 victory.

Chris Morcom won six of the first eight ends and led 33-11 after the final bowl.

In division six, Heathcote went down at Castlemaine by 50 shots.

Tony Leahy 14 lt V. Podesta 22, Denis Kilner 12 lt L. McKnight 33, Lorraine Speirs 13 lt D. Carlin 34.

The Saints are home this Saturday to play Kangaroo Flat.

In midweek pennant, Heathcote was beaten in Monday’s division two match at Harcourt by 40 shots.

Lorraine Speirs was level with B. March after 11 ends before March charged to a 23-14 victory.

Eileen O’Brien faced an 11-shot deficit after nine ends as W. Chaplin went on to claim a 29-12 win.

Dot Cutajar led by two shots after nine ends against M. Doyle.

The Magpies’ rink then lifted to win eight more ends in a 26-12 result.

Heathcote is at home against Bendigo East on Monday.

The Heathcote Bowling Club’s 120th anniversary celebrations will be held on Sunday, December 1 at 1pm in the clubrooms.
