Ladder-leading Saints to play in Marong
THE ladder-leading Heathcote makes its way to Marong this Saturday to contest the 11th round of division three matches in Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields weekend pennant bowls action.
Heathcote overcame a slow start to record a 25-shot win at home against second-placed Golden Square last Saturday.
The Saints won 97–72.
Adam Luxford’s rink fought from seven shots down after 11 ends to record a 29–23 win against B. Lynch.
After a slow start, Maurice Lee led by eight shots by the 11th end on the way to a 19–14 victory against D. Kent.
Bill Gardiner lost four shots on the first end against S. Rogers, but scored six shots on the 11th end.
By the final bowl, Gardiner led 28–17.
Chris Morcom was down by nine shots after seven ends but winning the next eight ends resulted in a 21–18 result against C. Murphy.
An 18-shot victory by Heathcote at White Hills has put the Saints in equal fourth place in division six.
Heathcote won 70–52.
Denis Kilner led by 18 shots after 10 ends and went on to record a 33–13 win against C. Geary.
Brian Berger’s rink fought on for a 19–18 win against E. Jardine.
Lorraine Speirs faced a nine-shot deficit after 11 ends but managed an 18–21 result against E. Wilkins.
The Saints are at home against Kangaroo Flat this Saturday.
Because of the Australia Day public holiday, there was no midweek pennant on Monday.
Heathcote is at home against Harcourt in Monday’s play.
The club’s Australia Day fundraiser tournament drew 20 teams for last Sunday’s play.
More than $6500 was raised, to be shared by the SES and Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Team entries are being taken for the invitation fours on Sunday 2 March.
