Lots on offer at athletics meet
A DOZEN disciplines will be contested this Saturday when Athletics Bendigo Region runs a non-AVSL round at the Flora Hill complex in Retreat Road.
Field and track action starts at 1.30pm and will be a chance for many athletes to prepare for next round of AVSL on 17 December.
First up on the track will be the 110, 100, 90 and 80-metre sprint hurdles, while the race walk distances will go over 2000 or 5000 metres.
First heats in the 100-metre dash will be the men at 2.05pm, followed by the women at 2.15pm.
Other events on the track will be 1500, 400, 3000, 5000 metres, and the 4 x 200-metre relay.
Various flights of shotput, javelin, triple jump and pole vault will be on from 1.30pm.
Some of the stars in this season’s field and track action include Eaglehawk’s Terry Hicks, Kathryn Heagney, Jorja Morrison and Cameron Smith, and South Bendigo’s Emma Berg, Carol Coad, Tyler Fynch and Joan Self.
A talented Bendigo Harriers squad includes Geoff and Neil Shaw, Anne Buckley, Peter Clarke, and Caitlin, Eliza, Josh and Reeve Evans.
University’s representatives across the opening six rounds of AVSL include Ross Douglas, Craig Green, David and Phoebe Londsale, Billy Meade, Andrea Smith and James Trew.
Meanwhile, Athletics Bendigo has teamed up with Rare Air Club to run a special meet on Saturday, 7 January at Flora Hill complex from 5.30pm and will through the night under lights.
Feature events will be the Hilson Builders-sponsored Sally Conroy Memorial over 200-metres and Parker Electrical-backed Richard Kitt Memorial at 1500 metres.
Little athletes will contest the Bicknell’s Intersport-sponsored 200 and 800-metre handicaps.
Vaulters will take to the air for the men’s and women’s open, and novice mixed challenges.
