Saints at home against Diggers

HEATHCOTE’S unbeaten run in division three pennant will be under threat from South Bendigo in tomrrow’s (Saturday, December 14) eighth round of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields bowls action.

The Saints are home against the Diggers from 1.30pm.

The latest hit-out for Heathcote was at Woodbury greens.

In a contest played in hot, humid and windy conditions the ladder-leading Heathcote won, 90-55.

The Saints won all four rinks.

Maurice Lee’s rink overcame a seven-shot deficit after 13 ends to claim an 18-17 win against L. Handley.

The Chris Morcom-skipped rink led by six shots after 12 ends.

Woodbury’s W. McCumber hit back to win the next three ends, but Morcom’s team won five of the next six ends to claim a 20-14 victory.

Adam Luxford dominated play against M. McMahon to win 30-11.

Bill Gardiner held a two-shot buffer after 13 ends and then won the next six ends to record a 22-13 result.

In division six, Heathcote heads to the Borough to face Eaglehawk.

The Saints were home for last Saturday’s match against Golden Square.

A great contest went the way of the blue and gold, 64-60.

Lorraine Speirs 21 d T. Cope 15, Denis Kilner 24 d K.Watson 22, Brian Berger 15 lt T. McManus 27.

The Speirs rink was beaten on the opening four ends, but hit back to lead by five shots after 12 ends.

Scores in the Kilner-Watson clash were level on the 11th end.

Although beaten on the last two ends, Kilner held on for a 24-22 win.

It’s Charity Round for midweek pennant on Monday, December 16.

The Saints will contest the division two match at Marong from 10am.

In last Monday’s play, Heathcote was defeated, 65-53 at Strathfieldsaye.
