Saint’s best season bowlers announced
WITH the regular pennant play in the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region over for Heathcote Bowling Club members, attention recently turned to naming the Saints’ best for season 2022/23.
After the final Pennant game on Saturday, 18 February the annual “Brownlow” vote count for the best player in Weekend Pennant and Midweek Pennant was held in front of a good crowd at the clubrooms.
The best Weekend Pennant player was Eileen O’Brien with the count O’Brien 19, Grant Baker 18, Greg Speirs 17, Bill Gardiner 17 and Peter Cunningham 16.
Best Midweek Pennant player was Greg Speirs with the count running at Speirs on 18, Lorraine Speirs 16, Dinah Finn 14, Eileen O’Brien 14 and Chris Cail 13.
While pennant bowling may have come to an end recently, the Saints’ social competition rolls on.
Wednesday, 22 February 11 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples in warm conditions.
The winners were Chris Morcom, Glen McDowell and Dick Dashwood with two wins, one draw, 34 points and +5 shots.
Runners up were Lorraine Speirs, Daniel Fitton and Rob Dashwood on two wins, 28 points, and +1- shot.
Then on Saturday, 25 February 10 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples on an overcast day.
Top honours went to Grant Baker and Cheryl Flower with two wins, one draw, 39 points and +8 shots.
Runners up were Bill Gardiner and Dave Thomas on two wins, one draw, 35 points and +6 shots and Duncan McGann, Ralph Scott and Stephanie Veyrinas with one win, 21 points and -4 shots.
