Saints face fight with North Bendigo

STILL in the hunt for a finals berth, Heathcote’s Division 6 team takes on North Bendigo in Saturday’s 13th round of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields bowls weekend pennant.

The Saints are at home for the showdown, which starts at 1.30pm.

Heathcote’s winning run kept rolling as it scored a 52-51 victory in last Saturday’s match at Kangaroo Flat.

Denis Kilner 11 lt R. Mills 23, Brian Berger 15 lt J. Shelton 18, and Ray Anderson 26 d J. McMahon 10.

North Bendigo and Golden Square are locked on 108 points and Heathcote is on 102.

Division 3 leader Heathcote recorded a 39-shot win at home against Kangaroo Flat.

The Saints outpointed the Roos 102 to 63.

Chris Morcom 14 d J. Grant 7, Bill Gardiner 19 lt R. Clark 25, Maurice Lee 11 lt C. Verbeek 20, and Adam Luxford 31 d C. Maddern 11.

Chris Morcom held a 19-shot buffer after 11 ends and continued to dominate. Bill Gardiner won the first four ends and led by a shot by the 11th end.

From there it was the Roos who took charge to win by six shots.

Maurice Lee’s rink was level on the ninth end, but the Saints won just three more ends in a nine-shot loss.

Adam Luxford led by 13 by the 11th end and went on to record a 20-shot win.

The Saints play at Eaglehawk this Saturday from 1.30pm.

Heathcote faced top team Bendigo East in last Monday’s final round of home and away matches in midweek pennant’s Division 2 action.

The Magpies won 76-39 on Bendigo East’s greens.
