AFTER a hard-fought eleven-shot victory at South Bendigo in the opening round, Heathcote’s division three team is on home greens to play Castlemaine in Saturday’s weekend pennant.

The Saints and Magpies clash starts at 1.30pm.

Heathcote started the Bendigo leg in Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields pennant by scoring a 78-67 victory against the Diggers in South Bendigo.

After being down by 15 shots by the ninth end, Bill Gardiner’s rink fought back brilliantly to lose just two more ends to claim a 20-18 win against I. Aitken.

Chris Morcom’s rink led by nine shots after 11 ends on the way to a 25-13 win against T. Gastin.

Adam Luxford won seven of the first 10 ends to hold a six-shot lead.

Shots and ends against T. Gretgrix were then shared before the Saints scored seven shots on the final end for a 24-8 victory.

The Maurice Lee-skipped rink was down by six shots after 12 ends as the J. Dixon-skipped rink from the Diggers won 28-9.

In division six, Heathcote scored an 84-53 win against Eaglehawk.

The Lorraine Speirs-skipped rink won the first four ends to open up a 12-shot lead on the way to a 32-8 win against W. Boyle.

Tony Leahy lost to Frank Lynch, 22-26, as Denis Kilner marked a 30-26 win against Carol Baker.

The Saints play at Strathfieldsaye this Saturday.

In midweek pennant, Heathcote plays at Woodbury on Monday.

The Saints put in a much improved performance in a 48-68 loss to Marong at Heathcote. A great match between Lorraine Speirs and P. Shanahan ended in a 21-all draw.

Scores were level after 14 ends.

Shots and ends were shared before Marong scored two shots on the last end to tie the contest.

Dot Cutajar lost to B. Girvan, 12-25, Eileen O’Brien lost to N. Tate, 15-22.
