Saints on top at break
A 15-SHOT victory at home against Golden Square has put Heathcote back on top of the Division Three ladder in the Bendigo leg of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls weekend pennant.
The Saints won three of four rinks against the Bulldogs to claim an 88-73 victory last Saturday.
After it faced a two-shot deficit after 10 ends, Chris Morcom’s rink won five of the next six ends for a 22-15 result.
The Adam Luxford-skipped rink led by seven after 18 ends, but Square struck brilliantly to win the last four ends to claim a 25-20 victory.
Down by 10 after six ends, Maurice Lee fought back superbly to win five of the last seven ends. After the last bowl, Lee led 24-19.
The Bill Gardiner-skipped rink led by 12 shots after 11 ends on the way to a 22-14 win.
After the Christmas-New Year break, Heathcote will be on home greens to play South Bendigo on 20 January at 1.30pm in the clash between first and fourth.
The Saints also rolled into the season break after a hard-fought division six match at Castlemaine.
A great match went the Magpies’ way, 64-61.
Highlight for Heathcote was a 24-19 victory for Brian Berger after it faced a six-shot deficit after 15 ends.
The Grant Baker-skipped team was beaten on the final end in a 22-23 result.
Although it won two of the last three ends, Brian Taylor’s rink was beaten, 15-22.
The Saints will play at Golden Square in the division six match between third and fourth on 20 January.
In club news mixed social bowls will be played at Heathcote this Saturday at 1pm while the Christmas break-up and raffle on 14 December drew more than 50 members, partners and friends.
Winner of the trip to Yarrawonga was Mark Alpert and hampers were won by Glen Wilkie and Daryl Dedman, the weather station went to Max Cunningham and three bottles of Devils Cave wine were won by Chris Morcom.
Pennant practice will resume on Thursday, 10 January at 4pm, Midweek Pennant is back on 15 January 15 at 9.30am where Heathcote will play at White Hills in the Division Two contest.
