STUNG by a one-goal loss last time, Heathcote will be fired up for another A Grade netball showdown with Mount Pleasant this Saturday.

The Saints are on their court at Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve to take on the Blues and it’s a huge match for both clubs.

Jointly coached by Brooke Bolton and Kelsey Hayes, Heathcote is fifth on a five and seven record.

The Saints are 21 per cent clear of the sixth-placed North Bendigo which plays Leitchville Gunbower at Gunbower this.

Mount Pleasant is fourth on six and seven, so Saturday’s clash could be a prelude to a Blues and Saints elimination final.

In last Saturday’s play, Heathcote was beaten on Elmore’s court by 20 goals as Mounts was defeated by White Hills, 64-41 at Toolleen.

Bolton said the first quarter proved costly for the Saints against the unbeaten Elmore line-up.

“We were down, 21-8 at quarter-time,” she said. “The next three quarters were much better.

“Defensive pressure lifted all down the court and we started to finish off attacks with goals.”

The powerful Elmore team won 59-39, but there were plenty of positives for Heathcote going into the match against Mount Pleasant.

Key players for the Saints include Isobel and Chelsea Caughey at wing defence and wing attack.

A major focus for Heathcote against the Blues will be a four-quarter effort.

“We need a consistent effort in attack and defence,” Bolton said. “A strong start is also important.

“We have started slowly in our past two games against Elmore and White Hills.”

“We will be hungry for a win after our previous game against Mount Pleasant ended in a one-goal loss after leading for most of the match.”

After facing the Blues, Heathcote travels to Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval on August 5 to play the LBU Cats.

Another huge match for the Saints will be on August 12 against North Bendigo at Barrack Reserve.

Final hit-out in the home-and-away series for Heathcote is on August 19 at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.
