Statewide awards to recognise sporting contributions
NOMINATIONS are open for players, officials, volunteers and others who have made a contribution to sport around the state to be recognised in the 2024 Victorian Sport Awards.
The annual awards, offered by the State Government and Vicsport, are designed to honour those who made an exceptional contribution to Victorian sport as individual or team athletes, coaches, administrators, media and clubs during 2024.
A total of 18 awards will be given.
Independent expert judging panels consisting of Olympians, former athletes and administrators from various sports will select four finalists, including one winner, in each award category.
Finalists will be announced in late March before winners are revealed on the night of the Victorian Sport Awards on 14 May at the MCG.
Categories include Coach of the Year, Community Coach of the Year, Official of the Year, Community Official of the Year, Team and Young Team of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.
Other categories are Community Sporting Event and Club of the Year, Local Government Initiative of the Year, Masters and Young Athlete of the Year, Outstanding Media Coverage of Sport, and the Victorian Sports Administrator of the Year.
According to Vicsport, the awards recognise and celebrate those who made an outstanding contribution to Victorian sport during 2024 by honouring those who excelled at a community level, high-performance athletes who shone at a national and international level, and everyone in between.
“In partnership with the Victorian Government, Vicsport is thrilled to once again recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our state’s sport and recreation community at the Victorian Sport Awards,” Vicsport chair Jason Hellwig said.
“The premier event on the Victorian sporting calendar, it is a special night where we have the opportunity to honour the grassroots heroes who keep our sport and recreation sector thriving as well as the high-performance athletes who starred on the world stage at events such as the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
“With 18 awards on offer, I strongly urge all Victorians to submit their nominations to ensure their sport is well represented on the night.”
All finalists, family, friends, sporting organisations and clubs will be welcome to attend the awards night. Ticketing details will be announced soon.
Anyone from the sports industry and the public can submit a nomination until 14 February at vicsport.com.au/2024-victorian-sport-awards-nominations.
