AFTER a successful fight against one breed of Bulldog, Strathfieldsaye faces another in Saturday’s second round of senior footy in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League.

Storm tackles Golden Square in the match of the day at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.

Michelsen medallists Jake Moorhead and Lachlan Sharp played key roles as Storm scored a 79-67 victory on Gisborne’s turf at Gardiner Reserve as the 2022 grand finalists kicked off a new season.

A strong Storm line-up coached by Darryl Wilson includes James Schischka, Daniel Clohesy, Callum McCarty and Riley Wilson.

Golden Square made a flying start to the season.

The Bulldogs raced to a 42-1 lead by quarter-time of their home clash with Kyneton and went on for an 89-25 result in captain Jack Geary’s 200th senior game.

The running power and skill of the likes of Ricky Monti, Tom Toma, Terence Reeves and Liam Barrett will test Storm in this contest.

A 37-26 win at Maryborough has meant Castlemaine holds second place on the ladder.

The Brendan Shepherd-coached Castlemaine is on home turf at Camp Reserve to face Gisborne this round.

Players to watch for the Magpies include Brodie Byrne, Matt Filo, Callum McConachy and John Watson.

The Brad Fox-coached Gisborne will be fired up to bounce back from defeat.

Ruckman Braidon Blake is up against his former club and will play a crucial role, along with captain Jack Reaper in defence, Sam Graham, Flynn Lakey and Liam Spear.

Kangaroo Flat showed it may not be easy to beat.

The Roos put in a superb effort to finish within eight points of Sandhurst at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The Nathan Johns-coached Roos will be determined to put in another strong performance when they face South Bendigo at Kangaroo Flat’s Dower Park.

The Travis Matheson-coached Hawks won a hard-fought clash with South Bendigo as Billy Evans, Clayton Homes and Dylan Hanley led the way.

Kyneton is at home to take on Sandhurst.

The Paul Chapman-coached Tigers will be snarling after a disappointing first hour of the season.
