A NEW service will open next week to help Victorian renters and landlords settle common rental disputes without going to a formal hearing.<\/p>\n
Rental Dispute Resolution Victoria (RDRV) will start on Monday, providing a free alternative for resolving issues such as bonds, repairs, rent increases and compensation.<\/p>\n
Premier Jacinta Allan said the service would ease pressure on the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).<\/p>\n
“Renters deserve a quick, fair and free way to deal with disputes \u2013 and I’m on their side. Everyone will now have a place to turn to solve common disputes without the hassle and stress of a formal VCAT hearing,” Ms Allan said.<\/p>\n
VCAT president Justice Ted Woodward said each application would be case managed to help both parties reach an agreement.<\/p>\n
“Each RDRV application will be case managed by a resolution coordinator, who will oversee the case and be the key contact for both parties, from start to finish,” Justice Woodward said.<\/p>\n
The service will be based in Melbourne’s CBD with community locations at Oakleigh, Bundoora, Frankston and Bendigo, and can also be used online.<\/p>\n
More than 60 per cent of disputes are expected to be resolved through the service.<\/p>\n
Consumer Affairs Victoria will continue to provide information for renters and landlords to understand their rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
