MEMBERS of the Chatty Community Crafting Group have started work on their entries for the Heathcote Show to be held on Melbourne Cup Day.<\/p>\n
They are encouraging members of the community to join them and help make the Arts and Craft section at the show bigger and better.<\/p>\n
“At one of our sessions we talked about how the entry numbers at recent shows had fallen,” said Jackie Matthews.<\/p>\n
“COVID and various other factors had taken their toll.<\/p>\n
“We decided we would make an extra effort this year to enter our work and encourage other people in the community to participate.”<\/p>\n
Ms Matthews said the show is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and help keep it going.<\/p>\n
“Some events, like the poultry, are no longer at the show and we wouldn’t want to lose any more sections,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The show is a fantastic community event and it’s up to all of us to participate and support it.<\/p>\n
“Some people worry that their wok isn’t good enough, but work doesn’t have to be perfect or professional.<\/p>\n
“It’s all about participation.<\/p>\n
“Our group is planning to enter various craft sections this year and the cooking.”<\/p>\n
Heathcote Show secretary Robyn Donovan said she was pleased the group is already preparing for the show.<\/p>\n
“It is great to have their support,” she said.<\/p>\n
“At the moment I am preparing the show schedule which will be available online in mid-September.<\/p>\n
“Sections will be pretty much the same as last year so if anyone wants to know what they can enter they can see last year’s schedule online.<\/p>\n
“There is a big variety and if there isn’t a particular section for anyone’s particular craft, we have one for anything not mentioned in the schedule.<\/p>\n
“We are hoping for great weather and a great turn-out. Entry prices will be the same and, once again, under 16s will be free.”<\/p>\n
The Chatty Community Crafting Group welcomes new members.<\/p>\n
“We are not a structured group,” said Ms Matthews. “There is always lots of fun and plenty of laughs.<\/p>\n
“We all work on different crafts and can sometimes offer advice if anyone is stuck on a project.”<\/p>\n
The group meets at the community house fortnightly on Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm.<\/p>\n
