the pages of the McIvor Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>150 years ago<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Published 30 September 1875<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Water supply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MR GORDON, the Government Engineer, Chief of Water Works, in company with Mr Strong, Borough Engineer, and Crs Hall and O&#8217;Meara, and Mr Lee, Town Clerk, yesterday inspected three sites for reservoirs in Smith&#8217;s and Peel&#8217;s Gullies, and near Moriarty&#8217;s on this side of the McIvor Inn.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of the first site being chosen the water would be supplied from the creek, which would require to be dammed further up and the water conveyed from the dam by race to the reservoir off the creek near the place mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Gordon, we understand, was more in favour of the site in Peel&#8217;s Gully, provided the watershed there was sufficient, and recommended that the Council should have the whole of the watershed surveyed, and apply to have it reserved.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Strong will make the necessary surveys and take the levels, and supply particulars to Mr Gordon, who will lay a report before the Government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Church of England, Car<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new Ford Touring Car is the first visible and direct result of the establishment of the Ford Industries in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>This new Ford model is the outcome of thorough and intensive investigation by Ford manufacturing experts as to the best type of car for Australian conditions.<\/p>\n<p>It embodies important structural improvements and refinements which make it one of the handsomest light cars on the roads and provides a new standard of sturdiness and dependability.<\/p>\n<p>One standardised Ford Touring Car is now being distributed right throughout Australia and the lower production costs which this standardisation has made possible have resulted in a Ford car of greatly improved appearance, yet sold at the same low price.<\/p>\n<p>A gracefully designed body with lower riding appearance, having deeper set, broader and more richly upholstered seats, angled to give greater comfort; a lower windscreen, lower hood, and nickel fittings throughout&#8211;all these combining giving the new Ford model a distinctive appearance usually found only in high priced cars.<\/p>\n<p>And the new Ford touring car is not only the lowest priced car in Australia but gives that unequalled dependable service for which Fords are famous everywhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 years ago<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Published 2 September 1975<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Green light for drag strip<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>McIvor Shire council has granted a permit to Messrs Ryan and Buller under their Interim Development Order to allow the construction of a Drag Strip in the Parish of Weston (Knowsley area) subject to certain regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Council received five objections to the strip.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Herald this strip will cost $250,000 and if built would be equal to the best in the word.<\/p>\n<p>The track based on American design will have a 60 metre warm up area, the standard quarter mile racing track, a 720 metre sealed runoff or braking section and a 90 metre grass section at the end of the track.<\/p>\n<p>The overall length of the track will be 1,266 metres.<\/p>\n<p><em>Published 9 September 1975<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Retirement of Ellis Knight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>From an Apex Club report:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Apexian Ian Thompson said &#8220;Tonight we see the retirement from the club of Ellis Knight, a foundation member of Heathcote and the only member so far to hold the position of District Governor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The club has benefited greatly from Ellis as he has been a very active member in all types of Apexian involvement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of the club I wish Ellis good fortune in the future and hope that he will always remember his time in Apex as an enjoyable
