{"id":101293,"date":"2025-10-18T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=101293"},"modified":"2025-10-16T00:15:33","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T13:15:33","slug":"back-to-mia-mia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/back-to-mia-mia\/","title":{"rendered":"Back to Mia Mia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAST students, family members and friends of the former Mia Mia Primary School gathered at the Mia Mia Hall last weekend for a reunion.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees travelled from as far away as Queensland and Tasmania.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers Chris McGrath and Maureen Charville spent six months planning the event and were pleased with the attendance.<\/p>\n<p>During the afternoon, attendees walked to the former school building, which is now privately owned, for a tour and photos.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/10\/DSC_0294_45280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"433\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Three generations of the O\u2019Sullivan family attended the Mia Mia primary School reunion.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mia Mia Primary School opened in 1869 and closed in 1991 when it merged with Redesdale Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a great afternoon,&#8221; said Judy Knight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was good to meet up with so many ex-students and people I hadn&#8217;t seen for years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My four children, Sue, Ross, Kay and Melissa all attended Mia Mia Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The whole school community was very involved with activities, and my children all enjoyed their time there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/10\/DSC_0298_47580.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"335\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Research officer and museum curator of the Heathcote Historic Society, Elizabeth Murfitt said the reunion unearthed a treasure trove of historical information.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I remember when the book mobile used to come to Mia Mia for the students and the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was always a big thing for both the kids and the adults.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Former student Ian Shiel attended the school with Ms Knight&#8217;s son Ross.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Shiel travelled from Tasmania to attend the reunion with his siblings who now live in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/10\/MiaMiareunion_50772.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some of the attendees at the Mia Mia Primary School reunion visited the former school building which is now privately owned.
