{"id":101376,"date":"2025-10-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=101376"},"modified":"2025-10-22T22:44:24","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T11:44:24","slug":"caring-for-the-carers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/caring-for-the-carers\/","title":{"rendered":"Caring for the carers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Heathcote Carers Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month providing care and support to those who care for others.<\/p>\n<p>The group has been going for more than 20 years and has been led for the past 15 years by Fran King.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sometimes carers feel isolated and it&#8217;s good to connect with others in a similar situation,&#8221; said Ms King.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the group we don&#8217;t talk a lot about our caring roles, but we can offer advice when needed and point members in the direction of any help they need.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have activities and outings as a break from regular routines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Members take turns to cater for afternoon tea and we have a door prize at each meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the moment we are preparing for a raffle with funds raised going towards future outings and activities, so the cost is kept to a minimum for carers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are also very grateful for the support we get from Mandalay Resources, Heathcote Health and Heathcote Community House as well as other businesses in town.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We like to support local whenever we can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/10\/SESandCarers104_84827.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fran King has been leading the Heathcote Carers Group for 15 years and says she sometimes has to ring her bell so she can get a word into the conversation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Carer Ann has been attending the group for ten years and said it is very supportive group.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone listens to each other and Fran is a fabulous leader,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who would like to join or find out more about the group can contact Heathcote Health or Heathcote Community House.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know first-hand how important carers are in our community,&#8221; said community house executive officer Vicki Forde.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So many of our owns staff and volunteers care for their aging parents, children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are so privileged to also work alongside Fran and our Carers Group on the amazing work they do in our community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also meet many wonderful carers through our Services Australia Agency.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If there is anyone who is caring for someone and has had to change their working situation, living situation or other, please contact us to have a look at whether you can receive support to help you through.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Help is often available through Centrelink, Carers Gateway or Carer&#8217;s Victoria.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For further information about the Carers Group, contact Heathcote Community House on 5433 2820 or Heathcote Health on 5431 0900.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Heathcote Carers Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month providing care and support to those who care for others.
