{"id":101538,"date":"2025-11-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=101538"},"modified":"2025-11-14T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T17:00:00","slug":"fire-restrictions-days-away-ahead-of-foreboding-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/fire-restrictions-days-away-ahead-of-foreboding-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire restrictions days away ahead of foreboding summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIRE restrictions in the City of Greater Bendigo and surrounding areas including Central Goldfields Shire, Mount Alexander Shire and Macedon Ranges Shire Council will commence at 1am this Monday 17 November.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are encouraged, if they haven&#8217;t already, to use the coming days to prepare their properties ahead of the restriction period, with CFA District 02 Assistant Chief Fire Officer Archie Conroy warning that despite recent rainfall across the district, conditions have been drying out rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rainfall totals are down across the board compared to last year, and with temperatures forecast to climb, we&#8217;re heading into a period where fires can start and spread rapidly,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re also expecting some unsettled weather in the district so beginning the fire danger period allows us to better protect our communities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re asking residents to take the time now to clean up their homes and properties before restrictions begin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2025\/11\/FDP1_10885.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fire restrictions in the City of Greater Bendigo and surrounding areas will commence at 1am this Monday 17 November.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Simple steps like clearing dry grass, leaves and debris can make a real difference when conditions heat up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Experts are concerned that this summer, regional Victoria could be hit by the state&#8217;s worst fires yet.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Captain of the Mount Taylor Fire Brigade Geoff Crane is stressing that 2026 may be unlike previous seasons and that recent rain will only accelerate the flammable undergrowth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Prevention is better than cure,&#8221; he said, offering some vital tips for the community to get &#8220;fire ready.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These include having a fire plan, leaving early if you think your property could be under threat, obtaining advice from your local CFA brigade and simply watching the weather.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on preparing your property and understanding local fire restrictions, visit cfa.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FIRE restrictions in the City of Greater Bendigo and surrounding areas including Central Goldfields Shire, Mount Alexander Shire and Macedon Ranges Shire Council will commence at 1am this Monday 17 November.
