HEATHCOTE Swimming Pool will open this Saturday after closing almost 12 months ago after several patrons reported feeling electrical shocks.<\/p>\n

Since then, City of Greater Bendigo (CoGB) has been working to fix the issue.<\/p>\n

Councillor Aaron Spong and CoGB mayor Thomas Prince visited the site today to inspect the works.<\/p>\n

Cr Prince said he was grateful to CoGB staff for their hard work and commitment to fixing the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cA week ago, we thought the pool would not be able to open for another week, but staff have put in a fantastic effort,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have been taken away from other important projects and have worked tirelessly to ensure it has been done as quickly and safely as possible now that the issue has been identified.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really pleased that the pool will be open for the Australia Day weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cr Spong said he wanted to reassure the community that safety was always a priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt no time did council state, nor was it ever the intention, to permanently close the Heathcote pool,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPublic safety has always been, and remains, the number one priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis position has been clearly and consistently stated throughout the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite setbacks and some negativity within the community, the imminent reopening of the pool is a positive outcome and welcome news for Heathcote.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once the swimming pool reopens, it will stay open, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the prompt action of City of Greater Bendigo staff, contractors were successfully secured to commence and complete the required works immediately, allowing the facility to reopen as soon as possible,\u201d Cr Spong said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the costs associated with these works were not originally allocated, they were necessary to protect a vital City and community asset.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Heathcote Pool plays a crucial role in supporting the health, wellbeing and liveability of local residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as I remain the councillor for Eppalock ward, I will continue to advocate strongly for the future of this highly valued community facility and for the interests of the Heathcote community.\u201d<\/p>\n
