FOR many older Bendigo residents, the thought of leaving familiar streets, friends and routines can feel like losing a part of life. The good news is that quality aged care options exist locally, so people can stay close to what matters. mecwacare supports Bendigo families through two residential aged care residences: mecwacare Flora Hill and mecwacare Long Gully.<\/p>\n

Both residences provide high-quality care while keeping residents close to family, friends and the places that bring comfort and belonging.<\/p>\n

“Staying close to home means everything,” says the daughter of a Flora Hill resident. “Mum can still see her friends, we can visit easily and she hasn’t lost connection to her beloved Bendigo.”<\/p>\n

Residents are supported by experienced care teams who prioritise independence, dignity and meaningful engagement.<\/p>\n

Daily activities and social programs encourage connection and wellbeing, alongside the reassurance of 24-hour support when it is needed.<\/p>\n

Programs range from gentle exercises and social gatherings to creative projects and outings, helping residents maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Expanding to meet local needs<\/strong><\/p>\n

Demand for local aged care continues to grow.<\/p>\n

mecwacare Long Gully is currently expanding to welcome more residents, helping more Bendigo people access care without leaving their community.<\/p>\n

This development reflects mecwacare’s strong commitment to meeting the needs of Bendigo’s ageing population while keeping people close to home.<\/p>\n

Volunteering and community support<\/strong><\/p>\n

Volunteering plays an important role at mecwacare, offering residents social connection and meaningful engagement. From 2 February, a new Biography Writing program will let volunteers work one-on-one with residents over six to eight weeks to record their life stories.<\/p>\n

The process allows residents to share memories, messages and beliefs, creating keepsakes for families while helping reduce anxiety, ease depression, combat social isolation and boost self-esteem.<\/p>\n
