HEATHCOTE Ukulele Group (HUG) has announced its seasonal program for 2026.<\/p>\n
The program features the Summer, Autumn and Early Winter seasons, the Brrrr, Heathcote is Coming, and Christmas is Coming Soon seasons.<\/p>\n
The group regularly plays together on selected Wednesday evenings and at various events throughout the year.<\/p>\n
“Heathcote Ukulele Group are a loose gathering of individuals who get together and play ukulele and sing, in between laughs, on many Wednesday evenings in Heathcote,” co-convenor Amanda Collins said.<\/p>\n
“We exist under the generous umbrella of Heathcote Community House and have been known to gather in several locations.<\/p>\n
“These include the Community House, Bunbunarik Childrens Hub Community Room, and Barrack Reserve picnic spots on summer evenings.”<\/p>\n
HUG was formed in late 2019 when local ukulele player, Ms Collins, offered ukulele lessons at the community house.<\/p>\n
Since then, HUG has played at every Heathcote Community Carols and has performed monthly at Heathcote Aged Care since May 2023.<\/p>\n
Last year the group celebrated its inaugural, and very successful, Heathcote Ukulele Festival.<\/p>\n
“The evening music circles happen in loose seasons, enabling people to take breaks when they need to,” Ms Collins said.<\/p>\n
“The circle caters to musicians of all levels of experience and skill and is a great way to extend your repertoire.<\/p>\n
“It’s simply impossible to take yourself too seriously while playing the ukulele, and HUG is open to all musicians willing to give it a go.<\/p>\n
“Many of our ukers have not played an instrument since childhood and some have never played an instrument before.<\/p>\n
“All HUG requires is a little bit of courage.”<\/p>\n
Group convenors Ms Collins and husband Dave Munro have ukuleles to try out for those who are uke-curious, and group lessons are an option when they are needed.<\/p>\n
