FIFTY years since it first began, this year’s Elmore Tractor Pull promises to be even bigger than ever.<\/p>\n

The track and spectator areas have been extended and improved and large crowds are expected for the popular event.<\/p>\n

This year’s program will include lawn mower racing and a truck show.<\/p>\n

The day is run by the Elmore Field Days, in conjunction with the Down Under Modified Tractor Pulling Association. “We are looking forward to an even bigger and better event than ever,” said executive manager of Elmore Field Days, Derek Shotton.<\/p>\n

“The Cornfoot Brothers have fully redeveloped and profiled the track for a more competitive event.<\/p>\n

“A larger new grassed viewing bank has been installed to accommodate large crowds on cool green grass.<\/p>\n

“There will be more food and drink vendors this year and the treed, shaded food court areas have further been developed.”<\/p>\n

The tractor pull involves modified tractors pulling weighted sleds along an 11m wide, 100m long dirt track.<\/p>\n

As tractors advance forward, weight goes on to the sled making it harder to pull.<\/p>\n

When a tractor pulls for the whole 100m it is called a full pull.<\/p>\n

Tractor pulling is known as one of the most powerful motorsports due to some tractors having more than one engine and some being over 1000hp.<\/p>\n

The Elmore Tractor Pull was the first event of its kind when it was established at the Elmore Field Days in 1976.<\/p>\n

After many years under the stewardship of the Colbinabbin community, then a brief hiatus, the event was revived through a partnership with St Joseph’s Primary School, Rochester.<\/p>\n

Elmore Field Days is now the sole promotor and owner of the event.<\/p>\n

The Elmore Tractor Pull will be held on Saturday 14 March with gates opening at 3pm.<\/p>\n
