<\/p>\nALTHOUGH they delivered a scaled down Zucchini Festival – a Festival-ette – organisers were pleased with attendance and funds raised for SES Heathcote Unit and Heathcote CFA.<\/p>\n
Attendees enjoyed afternoon tea incorporating award-winning zucchini recipes at the Heathcote Community House last week.<\/p>\n

“This year had a busy start, what with a very dry growing season and a very nervous fire season,” said co-organiser Amanda Collins.<\/p>\n
“We decided to go for a ‘placeholder’ event this year, with a simple afternoon tea.<\/p>\n
“Should we have a Zucchini festival again next year, it will be back to a weekend event with more carnival games and some fierce competitions.<\/p>\n
“Although it was a bijou event this year, it was a very enjoyable afternoon, and we raised over $150 to be divided evenly between our CFA and SES.<\/p>\n
“The community house would welcome some energetic organisers for the 2027 event.<\/p>\n
“Volunteers can contact the Community House directly.”<\/p>\n
Heathcote Community House executive officer Vicki Forde said she was pleased the event was able to go ahead albeit in a smaller capacity.<\/p>\n
“Congratulations to those who are now basking in zucchini glory,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Joanne Wood had a win with the most ginormous of biggest zucchinis, weighing in at a whopping 5.1 kilograms.<\/p>\n
“Cindy won for the Ugliest Zucchini, which was cultivated with so much love.<\/p>\n
“Pam enjoyed a back-to-back win with her delicious, award-winning zucchini slice.<\/p>\n
“And Amanda was voted a winner with her very special yummy cake, handed down the generations.<\/p>\n
“We look forward to next year’s full Zucchini Festival, spreading the love and the glory of our wonderous home grown and homemade produce and fun times together.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
