PARENTS, grandparents and carers attended the Sisterhood Project Free Baby & Child First Aid and CPR workshop this week at Heathcote Community House.<\/p>\n

The workshop covered topics such as burns, head injuries, choking, poisoning, childhood illnesses, breaks and bleeds, bites and stings.<\/p>\n

First Aid educator Matthew Drake, who was a paediatric nurse for 15 years, said it was a wonderful session.<\/p>\n

“It was one of the best I have attended,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The participants were all engaged, interacted well and appreciated the information.<\/p>\n

“Everyone left feeling more confident about what to do in an emergency.<\/p>\n

“I enjoy every session and always learn something new, too.”<\/p>\n

Managing director of The Sisterhood Project, Grace Larson, said it was rewarding to bring the sessions to rural communities.<\/p>\n

“It is great to see so many people of all ages, parents, grandparents and carers, all motivated to learn more about what to do when faced with an emergency,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Everyone deserves to have the knowledge to know what to do, to feel empowered.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully they will never have to use some of the skills, but it is good know they have them if necessary.<\/p>\n

“It was a good session and enjoyed by all participants but even if we only had one person attending it is worth it because the skills learned could save a life.”<\/p>\n

The Sisterhood Project will hold two more workshops in Heathcote.<\/p>\n

They will be held on Tuesday 26 May and Tuesday 29 September from 12pm to 3pm at Heathcote Bowling Club.<\/p>\n
