{"id":103121,"date":"2026-04-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=103121"},"modified":"2026-04-08T17:02:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T07:02:19","slug":"intergenerational-program-benefits-young-and-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/intergenerational-program-benefits-young-and-old\/","title":{"rendered":"Intergenerational program benefits young and old"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GRADE 5\/6 student leaders from Heathcote Primary School were invited to attend Heathcote Health\u2019s Aged Care Easter celebrations in the last week of Term One.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Carolyn Crowther said the opportunity to connect was enjoyed by everyone, with residents and teachers already talking about plans for the next get-together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the first of many planned partnerships between Heathcote Primary School and Heathcote Health Aged Care,\u201d said Crowther.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntergenerational programs benefit everyone involved and we are looking forward to seeing the partnership go from strength to strength.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/04\/EasteragedcareHPS_40416.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"804\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Heathcote Primary School principal Caroline Crowther said intergenerational programs benefit all involved and both students and aged care residents are looking forward to future visits.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents and residents spent time chatting, getting to know each other and playing games before enjoying a barbeque lunch together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Residents had made Easter bonnets, and the students judged a special Easter Bonnet Parade.<\/p>\n<p>A small group of residents participated in a scavenger hunt with the students.<\/p>\n<p>Crowther said there was wonderful feedback about the visit from the students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoyed meeting Jack,\u201d said grade 6 house captain Freddie.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/04\/EasteragedcareHPS2_41490.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"750\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students and residents enjoyed chatting and getting to know each other.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is really good at I Spy&#8230; He was a fun guy to meet and I liked how he was always smiling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grade 6 school captain Hailee taught Helen how to play Rock, Paper, Scissors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We chatted about how school was going,\u201d said grade 5 junior school council representative Liam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really enjoyed chatting to Joan and how kind she was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grade 6 house captain Ben said he enjoyed meeting the residents and having conversations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GRADE 5\/6 student leaders from Heathcote Primary School were invited to attend Heathcote Health\u2019s Aged Care Easter celebrations in the last week of Term One.
