{"id":103160,"date":"2026-04-13T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=103160"},"modified":"2026-04-08T20:45:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T10:45:18","slug":"stopping-the-cycle-of-unwanted-litters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/stopping-the-cycle-of-unwanted-litters\/","title":{"rendered":"Stopping the cycle of unwanted litters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ELIGIBLE cat owners in Heathcote can apply to have their pets desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered at a substantially discounted rate.<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo Animal Relief Centre (BARC) is targeting Heathcote, California Gully, Kangaroo Flat, Golden Square and Eaglehawk to help reduce numbers of unwanted litters across Greater Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>The five areas have been identified as having the highest numbers of non-desexed cats.<\/p>\n<p>Residents with a concession card or those experiencing financial hardship are eligible.<\/p>\n<p>Eighteen cats were desexed in one day at BARC recently which will result in fewer unwanted litters and healthier cats across the region.<\/p>\n<p>BARC offers multiple community cat desexing programs, each with different eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone caring for a cat that either lives in their house as part of a family, or in their yard as a community cat is urged to reach out to staff at BARC to find out more about the programs.<\/p>\n<p>Residents can contact BARC by emailing <a href=\"mailto:BARCreception@Bendigo.vic.gov.au\">BARCreception@Bendigo.vic.gov.au<\/a>, calling 54412209, or complete a cat desexing application on the website at <a href=\"http:\/\/bendigoanimalreliefcentre.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bendigoanimalreliefcentre.com.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>BARC is the animal pound service for the City of Greater Bendigo at 20 Piper Lane, Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>The centre opened in 2019, and provides housing, care, and medical treatment to more than 2000 animals annually.<\/p>\n<p>BARC aims to reunite missing animals with owners and has cats and dogs that have been microchipped, wormed, desexed and vaccinated available for adoption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ELIGIBLE cat owners in Heathcote can apply to have their pets desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered at a substantially discounted rate.
