FOLLOWING on from the recent Heathcote Flood and Emergency Planning workshops, Heathcote Community House will hold a Safe Use and Maintenance of Chainsaws session on 14 June.<\/p>\n
The workshop is one of the actions named in the Draft Community Emergency Plan.<\/p>\n
“This workshop comes directly from feedback during our recent Waterways Workshops and emergency planning conversations,” said community house executive officer Vicki Forde.<\/p>\n
“People told us they want practical skills to help them prepare for bushfire season, safely manage their properties, and cope during power outages or storm events.<\/p>\n
“Chainsaw safety and confidence can make a real difference in both preparedness and recovery.<\/p>\n
“In rural communities, practical skills and local knowledge are incredibly important.<\/p>\n
“Workshops like this help strengthen community resilience while giving people the confidence to work more safely around their homes and properties.<\/p>\n
“We thank the City of Greater Bendigo and Emergency Management Victoria for supplying the funding for both the workshop and the recent Waterways workshops.”<\/p>\n
The workshop is suitable for ages 12 and above with adult supervision required for participants under 18.<\/p>\n
It will cover when and where to collect firewood for domestic use on public land, personal protective equipment and techniques and tips for cross cutting felled logs.<\/p>\n
Participants will learn about the parts of a chainsaw and how to maintain them and compare the differences between two-stroke and electric chainsaws.<\/p>\n
Attendees are required to wear closed-toe shoes with steel-capped boots preferred.<\/p>\n
Work gloves will be supplied as well as eye, head and hearing protection.<\/p>\n
The cost for the workshop which runs from 10am to 1pm is $10 per person, and lunch and theory materials are included.<\/p>\n
