{"id":103747,"date":"2026-06-12T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=103747"},"modified":"2026-06-10T17:30:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T07:30:17","slug":"showing-off-heathcotes-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/showing-off-heathcotes-best\/","title":{"rendered":"Showing off Heathcote&#8217;s best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VISITORS and locals gathered last weekend for Heathcote on Show with more than 20 wineries, local businesses and an art show open.<\/p>\n<p>Heathcote Tourism and Development president Peter Young said it was a fantastic weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had record visitor numbers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The weather was overall pretty good, and everything went well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a great event for the town.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The art show by Heathcote Artists Inc. was a wonderful addition to the program and feedback has been really good for that and the show in general.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Visitors toured wineries, pop-up cellar doors, and browsed local shops.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/06\/ArtshowHonshow_38352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A new and very successful addition to the Heathcote on Show program was the 20th\u00a0Anniversary Art Show by Heathcote Artists. Photo: Sandra James.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Heathcote General Trader proprietor Adam Brady said the event was great for the town and was a platform for expansion in coming years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s great to have events like Heathcote on Show during winter when it&#8217;s traditionally a quiet time for local traders,&#8221; said Brady.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Events like this bring an energy to the town and it would be great to see it grow to include more activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, sales have been down, a sign of our current times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Heathcote General Trader stocks a range of household provisions, curated wares and hand-picked home goods.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_103753\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-103753\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-103753\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/06\/PeterYoung_40833-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-103753\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Heathcote Tourism and Development president Peter Young said there was a record number of visitors to this year&#8217;s Heathcote on Show. Photo: Sandra James.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The shop is open from Thursday to Tuesday, on weekdays 10am to 3pm and weekends 10am to 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>Carol Foster from Heathcote Ambulance Op Shop said the volunteer-run store had a fantastic weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were lucky. The shop was busy and we received lots of positive feedback,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sales were good with visitors keen to find a bargain, but it would be good if we could expand the event to include more activities, especially for children.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I remember a few years ago when the street was so busy you could hardly move.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/06\/OpshopCarolFoster_44312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carol Foster from Heathcote Ambulance Op Shop said the store received lots of positive feedback and great sales. Photo: Sandra James.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d love to see it like that again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ellis Wines operated a pop-up cellar door in the Senior Citizens Building.<\/p>\n<p>The 5-Star winery is noted for creating world-class shiraz.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sales and visitor numbers were down but it is always good to meet with customers,&#8221; said Stuart Palmer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many have been coming back year after year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>First-time visitor Belinda Carlilse, from Melbourne, said she thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the first time I&#8217;ve been here and was recommended by friends,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ll definitely be back again next year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VISITORS and locals gathered last weekend for Heathcote on Show with more than 20 wineries, local businesses and an art show open.
