{"id":103813,"date":"2026-06-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=103813"},"modified":"2026-06-17T19:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T09:26:08","slug":"craft-group-celebrates-marions-90th-birthday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/craft-group-celebrates-marions-90th-birthday\/","title":{"rendered":"Craft group celebrates Marion&#8217;s 90th birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FORMER Moormbool resident Marion Tattersall recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a party attended by family members and her friends from the Heathcote Craft Group.<\/p>\n<p>Tattersall&#8217;s crafty buddies followed up with a special presentation at the group&#8217;s next meeting, giving her a quilt.<\/p>\n<p>They also plan to take her out to lunch \u2013 when she can find time in her busy schedule.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have been attending the craft group for 27 years,&#8221; Tattersall said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a very friendly group, we are like a family and I love them all.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My daughter is married to (fellow group member) Cheryl&#8217;s nephew.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tattersall began attending the group, travelling to Heathcote from Moormbool, after her husband Roy died.<\/p>\n<p>She moved to Moormbool after her marriage in 1957, then to Bendigo in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>She still attends the group as often as she can, driving herself to the weekly sessions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/06\/Marion904_20160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marion Tattersall enjoyed a lavish 90th birthday party recently. Photo: Marion Tattersall\/supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The gifted quilt was made by Gail Meager, who died recently.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will treasure it,&#8221; Tattersall said said.<\/p>\n<p>Tattersall has fond memories of living at Moormbool and being involved in activities at nearby Costerfield.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did a lot at the Costerfield school,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I remember fantastic suppers at the Costerfield Hall, dances, attending the Uniting Church and raising funds for the fire brigade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Heathcote Craft Group has been meeting every week since 1988.<\/p>\n<p>They work on individual items as well as joint activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of the things we&#8217;ve made are beanies for prem babies, turbans for chemo patients, clothes for African babies, poppies and trauma dolls,&#8221; Tattersall said. &#8220;We also have bus trips.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/06\/Marion90_22165.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Heathcote Craft Group has been meeting since 1988 and recently completed a quilt featuring 729 hexagons. Photo: Sandra James.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tattersall is known for knitting and crocheting beautiful baby clothes and is currently working on a rug after being given an unfinished project and some wool. She has six children, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>The craft group recently unveiled another joint project, a quilt featuring 729 hexagons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were given some pieces from another group on the Mornington Peninsula,&#8221; Cheryl Connally said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were downsizing, so we have added our own patches to complete it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It took us about three months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anne Anderson donated the backing fabric, and Liz Allen did a fantastic job quilting it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group plans to raffle the quilt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FORMER Moormbool resident Marion Tattersall recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a party attended by family members and her friends from the Heathcote Craft Group.
