{"id":103931,"date":"2026-06-30T14:01:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T04:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=103931"},"modified":"2026-06-30T15:10:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T05:10:22","slug":"school-holiday-activities-at-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/school-holiday-activities-at-library\/","title":{"rendered":"School holiday activities at library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Wet weather hasn\u2019t dampened the spirits of staff members at Heathcote Library.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While outdoor activities have been limited for much of the first week of school holidays, staff have a list of great reading titles for all ages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have books for everyone,\u201d said Goldfields Libraries coordinator Elise Wright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anyone needs help choosing a title, they can ask one of our staff members for recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll our activities this school holidays are screen free.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier this week we made clay puggles inspired by the beautiful book Our Dreaming by Gunai author and artist Kirli Saunders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticipants were able to take home a little puggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext week we will be making stained glass serpents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren can drop in at any time during library opening hours, Tuesday 7 July \u2013 Friday 10 July, and create a colourful serpent inspired by stained glass designs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As well as the school holiday activities, the library has plenty of other options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers can borrow jigsaw puzzles suitable for young borrowers and others the whole family can put together,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cColouring activity sheets are always available, audio books and readers for all levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also have our school holiday Lego challenge. Anyone over five years old can drop in and let their imagination take over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce the weather fines up, we have sports equipment to borrow and we have just changed our StoryWalk display. Why not rug up and explore it?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe book is The Lost Library by Jess McGeachin. When Oliver finds a lost library book in his new bedroom, he decides to return it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut how do you find a mysterious hidden library? With the help of a new friend, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heathcote Library is temporarily housed in the Mechanics Institute-Senior Citizens Hall while construction continues on the Heathcote Hub <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/major-funding-boost-for-heathcote-civic-precinct\/\">redevelopment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Library hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 9.30am to 12.30pm, Thursday 9.30am to 5pm, and Friday and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wet weather hasn\u2019t dampened the spirits of staff members at Heathcote Library.
