BENDIGO\u2019S iconic Summer in the Parks event series begins tonight with the customary lighting of the Rosalind Park Christmas tree.<\/p>\n
The Entertainment starts at 6.30pm including circus activities and Christmas carols with local musician Sherri Parry.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt 7.45pm we have invited the amazing Australian swimmer Jenna Strauch, who won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, to say a few words about her career in the pool,\u201d City of Greater Bendigo mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Christmas tree will be lit at approximately 8.45pm.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Bendigo letters will also be given a Christmas makeover so the Piazza will look very festive for photo opportunities during the day and at night.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 2022\/2023 Summer in the Parks program will run across December, January and February and offers a raft of either free or budget-friendly occasions, including live concerts and outdoor movie nights, as well as an Australia Day celebration.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am also delighted that closer to Christmas the Summer in the Parks program sees the return of many popular Christmas Carols across the region,\u201d Cr Metcalf said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew Year\u2019s Eve will be celebrated with the traditional fireworks at 9.15pm and at midnight from the Poppet Head in Rosalind Park, where you can see the sky light up from the Queen Elizabeth Oval.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Metcalf said there will be \u201csomething for everyone\u201d as the program continues throughout January and February.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a perfect opportunity to enjoy free entertainment in our beautiful parks, support our local hospitality and dine out or picnic with family and friends,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
