{"id":86877,"date":"2022-12-15T04:57:17","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T17:57:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=86877"},"modified":"2022-12-14T17:19:12","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T06:19:12","slug":"stage-is-set-for-fun-and-festive-carols","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/stage-is-set-for-fun-and-festive-carols\/","title":{"rendered":"Stage is set for fun and festive Carols"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FINAL rehearsals are done and the reindeer are fed and primed for Bendigo\u2019s marquee Christmas event, Bendigo Rotary Carols by Candlelight, which takes place this Sunday evening, 18 December, in Rosalind Park.<\/p>\n<p>Macedon Ranges-based vocalist Gabriel Macura is relishing the opportunity to perform three songs during the show, two of which she has especially written, orchestrated and produced original arrangements for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe songs are O Holy Night and a jazz medley we\u2019re affectionately calling White Chestnuts, because it starts with The Christmas Song Chestnuts roasting on an open fire and leads into White Christmas,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll also be singing Silent Night with the Bendigo Youth Choir and the City of Greater Bendigo Brass Band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerforming at the Carols feels very full circle for me. I first started learning singing with Valerie Broad, who is the program coordinator for the Carols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also studied VCE music and drama at Bendigo Senior Secondary College, just up the hill from where we will be performing, as did Ben Gibbons who will join me on stage for one song to play double bass.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86879\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86879\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-86879\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2022\/12\/UK1-e1670998740775-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2022\/12\/UK1-e1670998740775-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2022\/12\/UK1-e1670998740775-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2022\/12\/UK1-e1670998740775-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2022\/12\/UK1-e1670998740775.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Goldfields Ukestra is one of several acts set to play on the evening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The fabulous Goldfields Ukestra, a group that started off in 2017 with two friends \u2018having a strum\u2019 and has grown to a weekly Monday night congregation of 54 at St John&#8217;s Presbyterian Church in Forest Street, will also make an appearance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the COVID time, we were not able to meet up face to face but continued Zoom sessions each week,\u201d Ukestra president Lorraine McSween said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we have not been able to perform in the community as much as we would have liked during the past couple of years, we are looking forward to performing three songs on Sunday evening at the Carols by Candlelight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try and diversify our style, and the songs we will be performing for your enjoyment will prove that.
