THE organisers of this year\u2019s Rotary Bendigo Carols by Candlelight are basking in the glow of its biggest turnout ever, with up to six-thousand people descending on Rosalind Park for the massive gathering last Sunday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe weather was kind to us, which brought in a huge number of visitors,\u201d said Rotary Club of Bendigo president Peter Reading.<\/p>\n

\u201cRotary were very pleased on this being such a huge event supported by the Bendigo community.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs darkness fell, looking out over the audience, candles, Santa hats and lighted headwear made the event a real family occasion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Reading also took the opportunity to thank local businesses who supported the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout their contribution Rotary would not be able to finance the carols,\u201d he said. \u201cThese guys make it possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those sponsors included Bendigo Bank, WIN TV, Bendigo Hire, 105.1 Life FM, Veolia\/Suez, the Wilkinson Family, City of Greater Bendigo, Signarama, SMACS Performing Arts Group, and Bendigo Theatre Company.<\/p>\n

Performers including Shelly Rodrigues kept the audience in full voice.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

One of the highlights of the evening saw long-time comp\u00e8re Bruce Roberts presented with a Paul Harris Fellow, one of the highest awards bestowed by Rotary, in recognition of his support for the local Carols for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

Profits left over from the gold coin entry fee are set to go towards building a new children\u2019s rehabilitation playground at Bendigo Hospital and part of Bendigo Health\u2019s annual Christmas Appeal.<\/p>\n

Rotary Bendigo\u2019s next major event will be its annual Easter Art Show at the Bendigo Town Hall, which has for many years attracted artists from throughout Victoria and interstate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
